Beasts of Bourbon - Psycho

(via:marychrist)

From The Axeman’s Jazz…

Anything involving Tex Perkins is pretty much an auto-reblog.  Love this song.

The Go-Betweens - Palm Sunday (On Board The S.S. Within)

marychrist:

postpunk:

The Go-Betweens are like the Decemberists of the 80’s, the crucial difference being that the Go-Betweens are Australian and wrote good songs.

ha! that is a cool statement. Agreed.

i was actually thinking about the Go Betweens this morning as I walked to work (cue: “Streets of Your Town”) and was thinking about the lovely butterflyeffects comment about WA producing the best artists (see Triffids post). True, WA has the Triffids, Qld has the Go Betweens, WA also has the Stems, QLD has the Saints. All in all, I would say, the isolated coast rad type states produce the best Aussie music…(plus Qld has Tex Perkins, Brad Shepherd and WA has a bunch of super radness too…), anyhoo..i’m rambling and i’m supposed to be working…

Hehe right.  You got Brad Shepherd, we got Dave Faulkner and the rest of the band.  And half of INXS (the Farriss brothers went to my school).  I reckon Brissy and Perth have the best musical pedigrees hands down.  Especially if you look at it per head of capita.  We’ve also got a bunch of bands like The Scientists/Kim Salmon, Sleepy Jackson, Little Birdy, John Butler Trio, The Drones, The Panics, Eskimo Joe, The Waifs, Sodastream, Jebediah/Bob Evans, Gyroscope, End of Fashion… blah blah… plus a whole slew of indie bands in the 80’s.  There was a massive scene back then.  Oddly enough there was also a horticultural theme… (Stems, Black Eyed Susans, Marigolds, Bamboos….etc)

The Hollies - Bus Stop

I love this song because it was my parents song.  They met at a bus stop, you see.  Bet you’d never have guessed that… My dad was from the big smoke (Sydney) and my mum was a local Perth girl (Perth was pretty small town in the 60’s)  He pulled up to the bus stop she was waiting at in a snakeskin suit to ask directions, and the rest is history…

What is your parent’s song?
