Trapped Fiction
Me: I once floated a script called "Changing Room" about a guy who goes into a changing room and isn't allowed to leave for six hours or else something bad will happen. Nobody picked it up.
V: HAHA
Me: Another time, I was trying to shop around a script called "Men's Room" about a guy who goes into a men's room and isn't allowed to leave for six hours or else something bad will happen. Again, no takers. Everybody said something about it being "too boring". Whatevs.
V: Geez, man. I don't know what's wrong with these studio execs. They wouldn't know a potential hit if it hit them over the head.
Me: It's all part of the oft-underrated subgenre I like to call "trapped fiction". It was pioneered by Joel Schumacher in "Phone Booth" and R. Kelly, who is evidently trapped in a closet.
V: Trapped fiction. That's brilliant. They'll be offering units on it at film school.
Me: Wow, you've got higher education all figured out. I thought I was the only one who noticed that you can pick up credits for analyzing imaginary terms and subgenres.
